Some treehouses start with a sketch. Others start with a dream. And for Terra and her husband Ted, Owl’s Aerie started with both!
Back in 2019, they reached out to our team and began working with our Project Manager, Daryl, on a design for the treehouse they had always imagined building on their property. What followed was years of gathering materials piece by piece, learning the craft, and preparing for the big build. As they put it, “There was a learning curve, but with the awesome advice of the NTS folks and after watching a lot of Treehouse Masters, we figured out a system that worked for us.”
In late winter 2023, they began preparing the host trees and installing the first Standard Limb TABs including our Standard Limb Dynamic and Static Arrestors to support the main structure. From that moment on, their weekends, evenings, and free time became dedicated to bringing the design to life. Over two and a half years, with help from friends and plenty of determination, the treehouse slowly transformed from concept to reality. This year, they placed the final touches and completed Owl’s Aerie.
Every corner of this treehouse reflects creativity, resourcefulness, and personal meaning:
A handcrafted sink: Terra, a potter, made the sink by hand—a beautiful focal point with personal significance.
Cedar siding milled at home: The siding was milled from a cedar tree on their property that needed to come down, giving new life to a piece of their land.
A reclaimed bathtub: They refinished an old tub and restored it as a standout feature in the bath area with an outdoor shower.
A gifted octagon window: Donated by a friend who hoped to someday see it built into a treehouse, now part of the story inside the lofted bedroom.
Owl artwork + the name: A pair of owls living above the build inspired both the artwork and the name Owl’s Aerie.
Ted summed up the journey beautifully:
“The treehouse was always a dream of ours. We had a great time building it and letting it take on a life of its own.”
